Solinst Model 107 TLC Meter for Temperature, Water Level and Conductivity
The Solinst Model 107 TLC Meter combines manual depth-to-water measurement with temperature and conductivity profiling in wells, boreholes, and open water. Temperature and conductivity appear on the reel-mounted LCD, while water level and probe depth are read from the laser-marked flat tape.
Designed for groundwater investigations and field monitoring, the 107 helps operators compare readings at selected depths to identify changes in water temperature and specific conductance. Choose an imperial configuration from 100 to 1,000 ft or a metric configuration from 30 to 300 m using the options on this page.
Three Measurements with One Instrument
- Water level: Measure depth to water from a consistent reference point using the graduated tape.
- Temperature: Read water temperature on the LCD while the probe is submerged.
- Conductivity: View temperature-compensated electrical conductivity to compare conditions at different depths or monitoring locations.
When the probe’s detection point enters conductive water, a light and tone activate briefly to indicate water contact. Read the tape at your reference point to determine depth to water. For profiling, lower the probe to selected depths and allow temperature and conductivity readings to stabilize before recording them.
Conductivity Profiling and Specific Conductance
The 107 displays conductivity standardized to 25°C, also called specific conductance and identified as EC on the display. This temperature compensation helps operators compare readings collected under different water temperature conditions.
The full conductivity display range is 0 to 80,000 µS/cm, with a calibrated range of 500 to 80,000 µS/cm. Manufacturer-stated conductivity accuracy is ±5% of the reading or ±100 µS/cm, whichever is greater. A displayed value below the calibrated range should not be assumed to carry the same accuracy specification.
Conductivity profiles can support saltwater intrusion investigations, road salt impact studies, tracer tests, and assessments of changing groundwater conditions. Conductivity alone does not identify a specific contaminant, establish its concentration, or determine whether water is safe to drink.
Temperature Measurement
The meter displays temperature alongside conductivity, allowing operators to document both at each selected depth. Solinst specifies temperature accuracy of ±0.2°C over the -15°C to +50°C measurement range.
Allow sufficient time for the probe to equilibrate when moving between water zones with different temperatures. Recording readings before they stabilize can affect the usefulness of the resulting profile.
Submersible Probe and Laser-Marked Flat Tape
The 19 mm (3/4 in) diameter TLC probe is submersible to the full length of the meter’s tape. Check the available clearance along the entire access path, including restrictions around pumps, tubing, and fittings, before selecting this meter.
The PVDF flat tape has permanent laser markings every 1/100 ft on imperial configurations or every millimeter on metric configurations. Graduation spacing describes the distance between markings; it is separate from overall measurement accuracy.
The probe’s submergence rating does not apply to the reel. Keep the reel above water during use.
Field Operation and Conductivity Calibration
The portable reel includes an LCD, carrying handle, probe holder, brake, tape guide, and accessible battery drawer. A standard 9V alkaline battery provides up to 90 hours of use, and the electronics switch off after eight minutes of inactivity.
The meter supports one- to four-point manual conductivity calibration using the manufacturer’s specified standards. Check the probe in fresh calibration solution appropriate to your expected field range and follow the operating instructions for calibration, cleaning, and maintenance.

Solinst 107 TLC Meter vs. Standard Water Level Meters
Choose the 107 when your work requires temperature and conductivity readings in addition to depth to water. If you only need water level measurements or a dedicated drawdown alarm, another Solinst model may better match your procedure.
| Model | Measurement Functions | When to Choose It |
|---|---|---|
| Solinst 107 TLC | Manual depth to water, temperature, and conductivity profiling | When you need to compare temperature and specific conductance at selected depths |
| Solinst 101 P7 | Manual depth to water | When water level measurement is sufficient and you prefer laser-marked PVDF flat tape with a P7 probe |
| Solinst 101 P2 | Manual depth to water | When you prefer heat-embossed polyethylene flat tape and an easy-to-repair P2 probe |
| Solinst 102 P10 | Manual depth to water | When restricted access calls for a smaller 10 mm probe and narrow coaxial cable |
| Solinst 101D | Manual depth to water and selectable drawdown threshold detection | When you need an alarm as falling water exposes a probe positioned at a selected depth |
Does the 107 Replace a Water Quality Laboratory Test?
No. Conductivity helps identify changes in the electrical properties of water and can support investigations of salinity or other changes in dissolved ions. It does not identify individual contaminants, measure their specific concentrations, or establish drinking water safety.
Does the 107 Record Readings Automatically?
No. The 107 displays temperature and conductivity, while water level and probe depth are read from the tape. Operators record the readings manually. For unattended measurements over time, select a suitable datalogger separately.
