Solinst Model 102M P10 Mini Water Level Meter

The Solinst Model 102M P10 Mini Water Level Meter is a compact manual instrument for measuring depth to water in wells, boreholes, standpipes, and other accessible monitoring points. Its small reel and narrow coaxial cable make it convenient to transport between locations where a shorter measuring length meets the project’s requirements.

Choose an 80 ft imperial configuration or a 25 m metric configuration. Both options listed on this page include the 10 mm diameter P10 probe. The imperial and metric models are separate cable configurations, rather than a switchable measurement setting.

Manual Depth-to-Water Measurements

The light and buzzer activate when the probe’s detection point reaches conductive water. Read the graduated cable at your established reference point to determine depth to water, then record the measurement manually.

The reel includes an on/off sensitivity control and a battery test button. Follow the operating instructions to check the equipment before use and adjust sensitivity when required by field conditions.

The 102M does not automatically log readings or provide a digital depth display. It does not measure temperature, numerical conductivity, or oil/water interfaces.

Laser-Marked Coaxial Cable

The flexible coaxial cable has a durable polyurethane jacket with permanent laser markings. The imperial N2 cable is marked every 1/100 ft, while the metric N3 cable is marked every millimeter.

A braided copper outer conductor provides flexibility, while a stranded stainless steel central conductor provides strength and limits stretch. The narrow cable can be useful where access is restricted by installed equipment, provided the probe and cable can pass freely along the entire measurement path.

Graduation spacing describes the distance between markings. It is separate from overall measurement accuracy, which also depends on equipment condition, water-contact confirmation, reference-point consistency, and measurement technique.

P10 Probe with Segmented Weights

The stainless steel P10 probe is 10 mm (approximately 3/8 in) in diameter. Its segmented stainless steel weight assembly adds flexibility and helps the cable hang straight during measurements.

Solinst lists the probe body as 70 mm long and the weight of the probe with its ten segmented weights as approximately 174 g. The 70 mm dimension describes the probe body, not the complete weighted assembly.

Check clearance around pumps, tubing, fittings, and other restrictions before deployment. Do not force the probe past an obstruction.

Choose 80 ft Imperial or 25 m Metric

The 80 ft model is suitable when your procedure uses feet and the required measurement position falls within that cable length. The 25 m model is suitable when your procedure uses meters.

These lengths are not exact equivalents: 80 ft is approximately 24.38 m, while 25 m is approximately 82.02 ft. Select the actual cable length and units needed for your work.

For deeper measurements, consider a full-size Solinst 102 P10 Water Level Meter instead of assuming that a longer cable can be ordered for the mini configuration.

Applications

  • Manual water level readings in shallow monitoring wells
  • Measurements in accessible standpipes and boreholes
  • Field programs where compact equipment is easier to transport
  • Repeat observations of changing groundwater levels
  • Measurements alongside installed equipment where sufficient clearance exists

Available Solinst 102M P10 Models and Part Numbers

Configuration Cable Length Measurement Units Solinst Part Number / SKU
102M / P10 / N2 80 ft Imperial; markings every 1/100 ft 114861
102M / P10 / N3 25 m Metric; markings every millimeter 114864

Before Ordering

  • Choose the actual cable length needed: 80 ft and 25 m are separate lengths, not exact equivalents.
  • Select imperial or metric graduations to match your reporting procedures.
  • Allow for the deepest expected water level, rather than only the current reading.
  • Confirm clearance for the 10 mm P10 probe and its weighted assembly.
  • Match the selected configuration and SKU to your purchase order.

Both configurations sold on this page use the P10 probe. Solinst also manufactures P4 versions of the 102M, but those are not selectable options on this listing. Contact Activated Carbon Depot to confirm availability if your application requires a different probe.

Solinst 102M Mini vs. Full-Size Water Level Meters

Model Measurement Functions When to Choose It
Solinst 102M P10 Manual depth to water using narrow coaxial cable When an 80 ft or 25 m cable provides sufficient reach and compact transport is a priority
Solinst 102 P10 Manual depth to water using narrow coaxial cable When you need a longer cable than the mini model provides
Solinst 101 P7 Manual depth to water using laser-marked flat tape When you prefer flat tape and the P7 probe fits your access requirements
Solinst 101D Manual depth to water and selectable drawdown threshold detection When you need an alarm as falling water exposes a probe at a selected depth

Can the 102M Be Used to Measure Drawdown?

You can calculate drawdown by comparing manual depth-to-water readings taken from the same reference point. However, the 102M does not have the reversed drawdown alarm mode found on the 101D and does not automatically calculate or record drawdown.

Is the P10 the Smallest Probe Available?

No. Solinst also manufactures a 4 mm P4 probe for certain narrow-access applications. This listing offers the 10 mm P10 probe only. Confirm the complete access path and configuration availability before selecting equipment for a restricted opening.

Solinst 102M P10 Frequently Asked Questions

The 102M measures depth to water manually. A light and buzzer indicate water contact, and the operator reads the graduated cable at an established reference point.

This listing offers the P10/N2/80 ft model, SKU 114861, and the P10/N3/25 m model, SKU 114864. Both use the 10 mm P10 probe.

No. An 80 ft cable is approximately 24.38 m long, while a 25 m cable is approximately 82.02 ft long. Select the configuration with the units and reach required for your work.

No. Imperial and metric models use separate graduated cables. The N2 configuration is marked in feet, while the N3 configuration is marked in meters.

No. It uses narrow coaxial cable with a polyurethane jacket and permanent laser markings.

The imperial cable is marked every 1/100 ft. The metric cable is marked every millimeter. These intervals describe graduation spacing, not a separate guarantee of overall measurement accuracy.

The P10 probe is 10 mm in diameter. Solinst lists a 70 mm probe body length; the complete assembly also includes segmented weights and is longer than the probe body alone.

The segmented stainless steel weights provide flexibility and help the cable hang straight during measurements. Check clearance for the complete assembly before deployment.

The selectable configurations on this page use the P10 probe only. Solinst also manufactures P4 versions of the 102M. Contact Activated Carbon Depot to confirm availability for your application.

The 102M uses a compact mini reel with an 80 ft or 25 m cable. Full-size 102 models offer longer cable configurations. Choose based on your required reach and transport needs.

You can calculate drawdown from repeated depth-to-water readings taken from the same reference point. The 102M does not have a dedicated drawdown alarm mode or automatically calculate drawdown.

No. Operators read the cable and record measurements manually. The 102M does not provide automatic data logging.

No. It detects conductive water for depth-to-water measurements. It does not display temperature or numerical conductivity readings, or distinguish oil/water interfaces.

Follow the 102M operating instructions to test the battery and main circuitry, then check probe response in tap water. A battery test alone does not establish that the complete measurement system is functioning correctly.

Battery replacement requires removing the mini reel's faceplate as described in Solinst's instructions. It does not use the same battery-drawer arrangement as some full-size meters.

Yes. When using the guide, read at its designated measurement point and apply the offset indicated on the guide when reporting depth relative to the casing. Follow the instructions for your setup and avoid applying the correction twice.

Your Activated Carbon Depot package includes the assembled 102M with P10 probe and selected cable configuration, a 9V battery, and a tape/cable guide.

No. The carrying case is sold separately.
